Here's how: Connect airEkey to Alexa

Amazon's Alexa is currently on everyone's lips. The language assistant allows voice control of music and many other things in the house. The charming female voice, which lives on Amazon's servers and is useful in everyday life, also gets along well with airEkey .

Here's how Alexa can support you every day life

Play music on demand? Verify! Lights on or off? Verify! Want the latest news and weather forecasts? Verify! Sending your robotic home vacuum to work on the go? Verify! These are just a few examples of what you can do with Amazon Alexa.

For the interaction between Alexa and airEkey to work, you must meet two conditions. On the one hand, you must have an airEkey network account, and on the other hand, you must use an airEkey WIFI Box. Another requirement is a speaker or other Alexa device. Besides Amazon, these are now also offered by many other manufacturers. You can then connect many manufacturers and everyday assistants to the Internet through the Alexa app and perform actions via voice commands or automation - such as locking your front door with "Alexa, lock your front door" using a smart door lock. It's like this...

  • Open the Alexa app and go to the "Devices" section via the bottom right tab.
  • Click the plus sign in the upper right corner, then click "Add Device" to connect the airEkey to Alexa.
  • In the list that opens, select the Lockdown category, and then select airEkey .
Clicking "Next" will take you to the Skill Store. Use the "Activate Use" button to activate the "airEkey Smart" skill in the skill store. In the window that now opens, log in with the access data of your airEkey web account.
  • Once logged in, you still need to allow Alexa to access your airEkey smart lock by tapping "Allow".
  • If you also want to unlock your front door with your voice (rather than just lock it), you have to activate it separately in the Alexa app.

Alexa is now connected to your smart door lock. Alexa will now perform a short search for the new device and the airEkey smart lock should appear under the connected devices. Now you can tweak things like assign rooms or change device names.

airEkey network option via Alexa

Alexa started out as a voice assistant that can do many things with your voice. This has always included controlling smart home devices. However, over the past few years, the Alexa app has increasingly become the control center for smart home systems. Because you can also use it to create a series of automations.

To do this, call up the "Routines" item in the menu. There you can set your own rules. As triggers, you can use not only voice commands or the time, but also the status of the device. For example, you can designate your Alexa smart lock to lock the front door when you say "Alexa, good night."

Safety-related information for controlling airEkey smart locks via Alexa

If you've connected your airEkey smart lock to Alexa and have a corresponding smart speaker near the front door, a stranger could be yelling through the open window to open the door from the outside. There are two related safety mechanisms to ensure this does not happen:

On the one hand, you can decide for yourself in the Alexa app if you want to unlock your airEkey smart lock by shouting. If you decide to do this, for security reasons, you'll also have to enter a four-digit code that Alexa will ask before she unlocks the front door with a voice command.
